Our Story

Welcome to my/our new blog! As it says above, I'm Em, I'm homeschooling my son, M (13). I am a writer as well as now a homeschooling Mom. Welcome to the second year of our journey. Like many people we became homeschoolers because of Covid. M was about to change schools, head into middle school for 7th grade, and my district (which is a great school district) was dragging their heels on what they were going to do for the 2020-21 school year. I got tired of waiting (I'm a planner) and decided to pull the kiddo. Now, I've always been interested in homeschooling. But M went to an amazing pre-school and a pretty great elementary school with great teachers. I thought if I homeschooled, it would have to be in the younger years. Homeschooling a middle schooler wasn't even on my radar. Until I met another Mom who homeschooled her older kids because she loved the elemenatry school but thought the other schools were just okay. I'm so grateful to have met her because otherwise I probably would've just stuck with the online learning part of public school (which was basically 7 hours in front of the computer plus homework). With us both fully vaccinated now, he could go back to school in the fall. But we had such a great 7th grade year, we decided to stick with it for 8th (at the moment, the plan is to go back for high school, but I'm willing to re-think things). Now that the world is starting to open up more, I hope to add more traveling to our homeschooling curriculum. I hope to document most everything here.
